'Ndrangheta
Though not as famous as the Cosa Nostra, the Italian 'Ndrangheta became the most feared and powerful crime syndicate in the late 1990s and 2000s. They are most known for their method of ritual homicide. After murdering the subjects, the 'Ndrangheta would cover the deceased's hands with gloves and then bury the corpse with burnt lime. It is thought that these, along with the positioning of the body, were meant to be seen as a warning to other would be offenders.
